Our brief to Graham included building a spacious, light and airy family home that would cater to three generations, work effectively as both interactive space and sanctuary, and connect the indoor-outdoor seamlessly, all of this on a steeply sloping vertically extensive site and incorporating the preexisting structure.

Not only did Graham deliver on the demanding brief but looked after our interest and added immense value to our home.

A superb listener and honest and upright, Graham is now a trusted friend we would never hesitate to work with again, and would recommend highly without doubt.

We employed Graham Upton as architect and project manager for our new administration block and redesigned school frontage. This was a truly inspired decision and we are delighted with all of Graham’s work and with the results. We found Graham to be very easy to work with. We developed a great rapport with him and always found very happy to listen to our ideas, to welcome our suggestions, to willingly incorporate any requests for last minute changes, and to keep us fully informed every step of the way.

Graham’s vision and design skills are superb and our new building and school frontage are exactly what we wanted. Our beautiful new building is attractive, stylish and superbly functional and the school now looks modern and welcoming.

Graham was also an excellent project manager and liaison between us and the contractors. He conducted regular site meetings and ensured that we always knew exactly what had been accomplished and what was scheduled to happen next. He was always available to handle any problems and consequently, our entire project was managed smoothly and collaboratively.

Graham is an architect and project manager of great skill and talent, he is excellent to work with and is now a great friend to our school. Graham will be our architect of choice for any future building we undertake and we recommend him unreservedly to any school or organisation needing the services of an architect.

Graham Upton (Upton Architects) has been providing architectural services to Diocesan School for Girls since 1985. I have had the pleasure of working with Graham on seventeen projects, ranging from small renovation projects requiring consent, seismic strengthening of a heritage building, through to major classroom buildings and specialist facilities such as our indoor Aquatic Centre and Centre for the Arts (currently under construction), which he designed, in association with Melbourne firm, McIldowie Architects.

Graham’s experience and knowledge enables him to successfully guide his clients through the key stages of a project: from client brief and concept, through to developed and detailed design, cost plan, procurement and contract management. Whilst he designs for a range of clients, one of his strengths is his understanding of the unique requirements of an educational campus.

He is a meticulous and well organised architect, is well prepared and reliable, is approachable and pleasant to deal with and responds in a timely manner. Graham has high professional standards and is committed to his clients. He is budget conscious and his strength would be his ability to design within a budget and to issue well documented designs which facilitate the meeting of timelines.

Graham has an in-depth understanding of the School’s property portfolio and operations and we have often relied on his guidance to navigate complex issues.
